Tang Soo Do.

Modern day Tang Soo do was created in 1945 by the late Grandmaster Hwang Kee in Korea. However the origins of this Martial Art, like many others, has developed over hundreds of years.  Tang Soo Do translates as 'Chinese Hand Way.   Tang Soo Do is a style many people would associate with Karate which translates as 'Empty Hand Way'.  The Chief Instructor and Senior Instructors of our organization have studied under Master Kang Uk Lee 10th Dan.  Kang Uk Lee was taught directly by Grandmaster Hwang Kee in Korea.

Tang Soo Do uses a variety of techniques which include striking with various parts of the body including both the hands and feet, blocking/guarding, arm locks, and restraints.  Through constant training and analysis of our hyungs (kata) a Tang Soo Do student will learn how to effectively protect oneself in a variety of ways, whether learning to avoid a confrontation in the first place, or developing the confidence to use the necessary techniques to deal with a violent situation.  Our students are taught practical and effective techniques which are relevant to self protection in today's society.

Here at Pyung Ahn Tang Soo Do we teach students to be prepared to deal with situations at kicking range, punching range or grappling range, inc ground fighting. Students are also taught how to escape from different holds or grabs, this is especialy important to the younger students, to assist them in getting away from an adversary, which we advise to be the first action to take.

Students are required to show discipline and self-control at all times.  Tang Soo Do places great emphasis on developing a strong character as well as integrity and respect.  In Tang Soo Do strength of the mind is as important as strength of the body. We ensure that courtesy, awareness and control are used at all times whilst training in the dojang, to make our classes a safe place to train .

Tang Soo Do is suitable for men, women and children of all ages, making this an ideal opportunity for the family to learn Martial Arts together. We have male and female instructors, all of which are professionally trained, insured and CRB checked.

For those students who are interested in supplementing their training there is the opportunity to attend seminars which include Jujitsu, kick boxing, Bjj, Thai boxing, kyuso jutsu (pressure point manipulation), bunkai (application of hyung) and more.  Most of which are taught by expert instructors belonging to our own organisation Pyung Ahn Moo Sool Do.

Pyung Ahn Moo Sool Do

Pyung Ahn Moo Sool Do is a multi styled organization designed to meet the requirements of anybody wishing to train in the Martial Arts. Mr Stephen Nash set up PAMSD in 1999 after leaving the International Tang Soo Do federation.  Mr Nash has a wealth of knowledge in many aspects of Martial Arts including Jujitsu, TSD, Tai Chi and more.

Mr Nash is soon to move abroad, and is leaving his well established organization in the capable hands of his son, Mr Chris Nash.  Chris is also very experienced and well rounded in the Martial arts. He currently holds a 3rd Dan in Tsd and also a 2nd Dan in Jujitsu.

Pyung Ahn Moo Sool Do is well equipped to deal with the Martial Art requirements of most individuals whatever their needs may be.  The organisation has contacts with some of the best Instructors in the country in many different areas.

In addition to the above, PAMSD with the co-operation of 'Percy Hedley Foundation' have formed a club to make Martial Arts accessible to persons with special needs. Mr Steve Nash writes "The syllabus is organic in such that it develops as the intake of the student participation expands. Practices taught have to be modified in order to accommodate the individual needs of the learner. Traditional practices are working in conjunction with new practices and theories. Barriers and misconceptions are being broken down every session as the learners expand their capabilities and strive to achieve all that they can be, bringing enlightenment to Teachers, Medical Carers and Learners themselves."

"The facilities are customized to afford maximum safety and achievability. As progress develops students are encouraged to enter into mainstream classes in conjunction with Cobra Club sessions. Several have already done so with a unanimous vote of confidence that this system is proving it can meet its goals for many."
